Three New 2027 Mediterranean Cruises Orange County Travelers Should Book This Summer

Which 2027 Mediterranean cruises are worth booking right now?
For Orange County travelers planning their next major European voyage, three new 2027 Mediterranean itineraries stand out: Celebrity Xcel's Barcelona-and-Athens European debut, Oceania Allura's first Quiet Mediterranean season (November 2026 through March 2027), and Regent Seven Seas Mariner's 82-night Grand Mediterranean Odyssey from Southampton to Athens. As of May 2026, the best cabins and overnight ports on these sailings are already moving. The 12 to 14 months ahead window is when the suites and aft balconies still exist.
Why book a 2027 Mediterranean cruise in May 2026?
Two reasons. First, premium and luxury cruise lines (Celebrity Edge-class and above, Oceania, Regent) sell off their best inventory 12 to 18 months out. The aft-facing suites, the connecting family staterooms, and the AquaClass cabins next to the spa go first. If you wait until winter 2026 to book a summer 2027 cruise, you are choosing from leftovers.
Second, 2027 brings real itinerary news. Celebrity Xcel is the line's newest ship, debuting in Europe in late April 2027. Oceania Allura is debuting a brand-new shoulder-season Mediterranean concept. Regent's Seven Seas Mariner is running a once-a-year grand voyage that overnight-stays in Bordeaux, Istanbul, and Alexandria.

Pick 1. Celebrity Xcel, the brand-new ship in the Western and Eastern Med
What it is. Celebrity Xcel is the fourth ship in Celebrity's Edge series and the newest in the fleet. From April 26 through October 18, 2027, Xcel homeports in Barcelona and Athens, running a mix of 7-, 8-, and 10-night Mediterranean itineraries.
Why it is interesting. Brand-new ship inventory means brand-new everything: the cabins, the restaurants, the spa, the casino. The Edge-series Magic Carpet platform is a structural feature unique to this class. Whether you like the design or not, it is something neither Oceania nor Regent offers.
A 10-night Italy, Spain, and French Riviera roundtrip from Barcelona departs May 28, 2027. An 8-night Greece, Malta, and Turkey itinerary leaves Barcelona later in the season. A 7-night Eastern Mediterranean sailing leaves on July 31, 2027.
Best for. First-time Mediterranean cruisers, multigenerational families (Xcel handles ages 6 months to 90 years better than the luxury lines), and travelers who want a premium experience without the all-inclusive price tag of Oceania or Regent.
Honest opinion. If you are a couple in your 60s with no kids in tow and you have cruised Celebrity twice already, Xcel might feel familiar. We would steer you toward Oceania or Regent for 2027. If you have not been on a new-build cruise ship in five years, Xcel is the right pick.

Pick 2. Oceania Allura's first Quiet Mediterranean season
What it is. Oceania's new Allura sails her first-ever Quiet Mediterranean season from November 2026 through March 2027. The itineraries explore Rome, Florence, Ephesus, Athens, and Seville in the cooler, less-crowded shoulder months.
Why it is interesting. Most cruisers default to the summer Mediterranean. The crowds at the Acropolis in July are brutal, the Roman pavement is over 100 degrees, and your AC-blasted bus is the only refuge. A November-through-March Med sailing flips that script. You walk through the Royal Alcazar in Seville with maybe 200 other people in the building, not 2,000. You eat Florentine steak in a restaurant that has tables, not a 90-minute wait.
Best for. Travelers who have done the summer Mediterranean and felt processed. Empty-nesters, second-honeymoon couples, anyone who wants to actually see the cathedral.
Honest opinion. Allura's Quiet Mediterranean is one of the most genuinely differentiated cruise products on the market for 2027. The ship is small (1,200 passengers), the food is well-rated industry-wide, and shoulder-season pricing on Oceania can be $300 to $500 per person cheaper than peak summer.
The one tradeoff: the weather. November in Rome is 60-degree days and 8 hours of usable daylight. Some ports along the Turkish coast get rainy. Pack a layer.

Pick 3. Regent Seven Seas Mariner, the 82-night Grand Mediterranean Odyssey
What it is. This is the long one. Regent Seven Seas Mariner departs Southampton on July 30, 2027, sails for 82 nights, and ends in Athens (Piraeus). Stops cross North Africa, the Aegean, and the broader Mediterranean. The headline overnight ports are Bordeaux, Istanbul, and Alexandria.
Why it is interesting. Regent is all-inclusive. Business-class airfare to Southampton and home from Athens is included. Most shore excursions are included. The drink package is included. The Wi-Fi is included. The gratuities are included.
For a comparable Celebrity or Oceania experience over 82 nights, you would be writing checks for $25,000-plus in extras on top of the cruise fare. Regent simplifies the math.
Best for. Retirees with the time and the appetite, second-career writers and academics with portable work, and couples doing the cruise of a lifetime.
Honest opinion. Three months at sea is a commitment. If you have never done a cruise longer than 14 days, do not start with 82. Pick a 21-day Regent voyage first to see how the ship rhythm feels.
If you have done a 30-day cruise before and loved it, the Mariner Odyssey is genuinely one of the most impressive itineraries Regent has run in five years. The overnight in Alexandria is the difference between glimpsing the pyramids from a 6-hour port window and actually seeing them with a guide and time to spare.

How TripMatters books these for you
TripMatters, a VIRTUOSO travel agency in Tustin, California, is a cruise specialist for all three lines: Celebrity, Oceania, and Regent. We do this all day.
Through VIRTUOSO, we layer benefits that direct bookings do not unlock. Onboard credit typically runs $100 to $500 per cabin depending on the sailing length. Pre-paid gratuities and complimentary cocktail hours appear on select sailings. Shipboard hosts on VIRTUOSO-designated sailings give you a private cocktail event and a dedicated point of contact.
You pay the same cruise fare you would see on Celebrity, Oceania, or Regent's own website. The cruise line pays us a commission on the back end, typically 10 to 16 percent depending on the line.
The Orange County flight piece
None of these itineraries leave from a Southern California port. You will fly from LAX or SNA to your starting city.
For Celebrity Xcel, you are flying into Barcelona or Athens. There are no direct flights from SNA. Plan on connecting through LAX, JFK, Atlanta, or a European hub. For Oceania Allura's shoulder-season Mediterranean, the embarkation port varies by sailing, with Lisbon, Rome, and Athens most common. For the Regent Mariner Odyssey, you fly into London (Heathrow or Gatwick) for Southampton embarkation.
If you book the cruise through TripMatters, we coordinate the flights, the pre-cruise hotel night, and any post-cruise extension you want (Athens for 3 nights after a Greek Islands sailing is the most common add-on we book in 2026).
Frequently asked questions
Why book a 2027 cruise this far in advance? Premium and luxury cabins sell first. By winter 2026, the best cabins on Celebrity Xcel's summer 2027 sailings will already be gone. Booking 12 to 14 months out gives you the most cabin choice and the best pricing on the most desirable suites.
Is the airfare really included on Regent? Yes, including international business class on sailings of qualifying length. You can also take an airfare credit and book your own flights, which TripMatters can arrange through SNA or LAX.
What is "Quiet Mediterranean" actually like? Smaller crowds at major attractions, cooler weather (50 to 65 degrees most days), shorter daylight hours, and lower pricing. Some smaller ports run shorter hours in winter. Major sites like the Vatican, Uffizi, and Acropolis stay open year-round.
Will I get a better price if I book direct with Celebrity? No. The published cruise fare is the same. What changes is what you get on top of it. Booking with TripMatters layers VIRTUOSO perks, onboard credit, and advisor support on top of the same fare.
What happens if Celebrity or Regent changes the itinerary? A real advisor calls you before you see the email. We have rebooked clients on equivalent sailings within 24 hours of a major itinerary change. You will not be navigating the cruise line's 800 number alone.
How do I start planning a 2027 Mediterranean cruise? Schedule a free 30-minute consultation. We will ask about your past cruise history, budget range, and travel style, then send 2 to 3 specific itineraries with cabin-level pricing within 48 hours.
Ready to lock in your 2027 Mediterranean?
These three itineraries are not the only options for 2027, but they are the three most interesting new ones. If one resonates, the move is to act in the next 60 days. The cabins that look open today will be gone by Labor Day.
