When Should You Book an Alaska Cruise for 2027?

If you are seriously considering an Alaska cruise in 2027, fall 2026 is not too early to book. The major cruise lines already have their 2027 Alaska seasons on sale, which means travelers can compare ships, routes and cabin categories now instead of waiting until spring.

Booking early matters most if you want a particular sailing date, cabin type, Glacier Bay itinerary or Alaska cruisetour. If you are flexible about all of those things, waiting gives you more room to watch promotions.

2027 Alaska cruises are already open

Holland America is planning six ships in Alaska from April through September 2027, sailing from Seattle, Vancouver and Whittier. Its anniversary season includes a new eight-day Vancouver itinerary visiting Glacier Bay, Skagway, Ketchikan and Prince Rupert. Holland America

Princess has also opened its 2027 Alaska season, with eight ships and a large cruisetour program combining cruises with its Alaska wilderness lodges. Cruises

Celebrity is already selling 2027 Alaska itineraries as well, including sailings on Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Solstice. Celebrity Cruises

That means the question in October 2026 is no longer whether you can book Alaska. It is whether booking now gives you an advantage.

Book earlier if the itinerary matters to you

Not every Alaska cruise visits the same places.

Some sail roundtrip from Seattle. Others depart Vancouver. One-way itineraries can connect Vancouver with Seward or Whittier and make it easier to add time inland.

Glacier access also deserves attention. Glacier Bay National Park regulates cruise-ship entry with daily and seasonal limits, so only authorized sailings can enter the park. National Park Service

If Glacier Bay is important to you, start by finding itineraries that actually include it rather than choosing a ship first and assuming the glacier experience will be the same.

What if you want Denali too?

A cruise and an Alaska cruisetour are different vacations.

A standard cruise keeps most of the trip along the coast. A cruisetour adds inland travel, often involving Anchorage, Denali or Fairbanks.

That can create a more complete Alaska trip, but it also adds transportation schedules, hotel stays and additional planning.

We recently covered what can happen when a flight disruption affects an Alaska land itinerary in What Happens If You Miss Your Flight Before an Alaska Cruisetour?. The lesson is simple: look at the entire trip, not only the ship.

Should you wait for a better cruise promotion?

Maybe, if you are highly flexible.

Cruise promotions change throughout the year, but a lower advertised fare is not automatically a better booking if the cabin or itinerary you wanted is no longer available.

If you book earlier, ask what the deposit and cancellation terms are and whether your reservation may be eligible for a later fare adjustment. Policies vary by cruise line, fare type and promotion, so this should be checked against the actual booking rather than assumed.

The best time to book is when you find the right itinerary, cabin and overall price, not when the marketing calendar says you are supposed to buy.

Which Alaska cruise is right for you?

Ship choice matters too.

TripMatters advisor Patti Carter has sailed Alaska multiple times, including aboard Regent Seven Seas, and found that ship size changed the experience for her. Her firsthand account in Patti Carter’s Regent Alaska Cruise Trip Report explains why she preferred a smaller luxury ship for glacier viewing and service. Trip Matters

A traveler looking for family activities may choose very differently from someone prioritizing quiet spaces, included excursions or a smaller ship.

That is why we would choose the Alaska experience first and the cruise line second.
